    In May 2000, Chu Kochen Honors College was established on the basis of Mixed Class (Honors Program of Engineering), Undergraduate Program for Advanced Engineering Education, Intensive Training Program of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The diverse model of Mixed Class (Honors Program of Engineering) was then extensively applied to more elite students in the Honors Programs of Liberal Arts&Social Science, Science, and Engineering. This new stroke of renovation enabled the development of Chu Kochen Honors College to turn a new chapter.

  • Mixed class: To bring up talents for 21st-century science development, Zhejiang University initiated in 1984 a pilot project—Mixed Class (Honors Program of Engineering), which “mixes” freshmen from different departments into an elite class, where the strength of Zhejiang University’s engineering courses can be combined with the advantage of her long-established science courses. From then on, Zhejiang University has never looked back in the exploration of elite education.

  • Founded in May 2000, Chu Kochen Honors College (CKC) of Zhejiang University is named in honor of Chu Kochen, the distinguished former president of the university, who made indelible contributions to the development of higher education in China and the growth of Zhejiang University. The College traces its origins back to the Mixed Class established in 1984 at the former Zhejiang University, a pioneering initiative that laid the foundation for elite undergraduate education at Zhejiang University. Currently, Academician Ma Yanming, President of Zhejiang University, serves as the Dean of the College, leading its pursuit of educational excellence and talent cultivation.


    As a dedicated platform for the intensive cultivation of outstanding undergraduate students at Zhejiang University, Chu Kochen Honors College acts as a cornerstone for nurturing top-tier innovative talents and a crucial testing ground for deepening educational reform in higher education. Guided by its motto Aspire High and Strive for Excellence, the College closely aligns its development with the urgent demands of national strategic development, focusing on fostering a new generation of pioneering innovators and academic leaders.
