On November 24th, the CKC freshman debate finale kicked off. The affirmative and negative teams had a heated debate over the topic, “Does online public opinion trial bring us closer to or farther from justice?” With the sharp swords of speech, they cut through the fog and illuminated the path to truth, allowing us to witness the double-edged sword effect of online public opinion trials.
The affirmative side: Team Here We Debate
The Negative Side: Team That Everyone Wants to Go to Bed Early
With passionate statement, the affirmative side has drawn the outline of a magnificent picture of using online public opinion trials to illuminate the road of justice.
From their perspective, the online public opinion trials are the horns to wake people up, awakening the slumbering conscience; they are the sword to check abuses of power, severing the chains of corruption; they are the lamps of truth, dispelling the haze of rumors. It is the online public opinion trials that make disadvantaged groups no longer lonely, let the sound of justice resonate in the sky, and propel the wheels of social progress forward.
The negative side, with calm and rational analysis, revealed the dark side where the online public opinion trial obscures the light of justice.
They pointed out that the online public opinion trial is a flood of overflowing emotions that breaks through the dikes of rationality; a breeding ground for prejudice that gives birth to the seeds of hatred; and a magic mirror that distorts the truth and reflects false images. It makes the innocent suffer from the pain of slander, causes judicial fairness to be questioned, and undermines social harmony.
In this debate, both the affirmative and the negative side have argued vigorously with opinions and facts, the pros and cons of online public opinion trails are explained in detail. They are not only the pursuers of justice, but also the critics of reality and the builders of future. They have used words to bridge the gap between ideals and reality, allowing us to see the complexity and multiple facts of online public opinion trials through the mist.
After the competition, teacher Hua Xiangli and Yi Tianwei, along with Cao Ran, Chen Kexin, Ma Chicheng, Wang Ke and Yu Shulin respectively gave comprehensive and detailed feedback on this debate competition, and also expanded on relevant hot topics that have occurred recently, guiding everyone to correctly view online public opinion and properly respond to online comments.
