We have celebrated the 74th birthday of our motherland during the National Day this year. At the same time, the Asian Games Gala was also in full swing. The beautiful encounter of the National Day and the Asian Games Gala is a two-way race between the sportsmanship and patriotic passion. This is the festival for the Chinese people, and also the gala shared by everyone in the world. During this National Day, students at Chu Kochen Honors College (CKC) witnessed this special moment together. With the identity of “XiaoQingHe”, they dressed in the Hushan green volunteer uniform, like willows dancing in the wind, fresh and pleasant. They added a touch of bright color for the Asian Games Gala, and at the same time showed the youthful charm of CKCers in Zhejiang University.

During the volunteer activities for the Asian Games, I was lucky to become a flag riser. My main duty was to serve in several flag rising activities at the welcome ceremony of the Asian Games Village and at the esports center. For the successful and smooth development of the flag rising ceremony, I, together with other volunteers, participated in the one month’s qualification training this summer vacation. It’s hard but also meaningful that month, and I finally passed the examination, becoming a glorious flag riser. I think the most important thing to be a flag riser is to show our most confidence side to the world. Borrowing the words of the instructor, we flag risers is supposed to show the Chinese virility in the flag rising ceremony . We must do our work successfully, this is a recognition to the sporters, and also an important way to show China’s striving feature. The National day this year, is not only the day to celebrate the birthday of our motherland, but also a day for us volunteers to represent the elegance of China. Completing every flag rising mission successfully, is my highest tribute to my great motherland!

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Singh, President of the Board of Governors said, “XiaoQingHe” is an indispensable part of the Asian Games. I feel very honored to be an Asian Games XiaoQingHe”. In my heart, youth and friendliness are the keywords for XiaoQingHe”. This is a vibrant team, and the color scheme of our volunteer uniforms are also very fresh, exuding youthful energy. In our workshop, there are often friendly interactive activities that greatly enhance our mutual affection. My most memorable moment was attending the torch relay ceremony in Hangzhou. The local citizens rushed to the scene that day, and everyone was extremely excited. After the event, I had the privilege to receive the torch from a distinguished guest from Thailand and felt its weight. At that moment, I felt an immense sense of pride and excitement.

After volunteering for the Asian Games, I have gained a new understanding of Hangzhou. Before this, whether studying or living in Hangzhou, I felt a sense of detachment from the city and did not deeply understand or engage in its social construction. Volunteering for the Asian Games allowed me more opportunities to explore Hangzhou. I also met many people from various fields who were all working hard for this edition of the Asian Games, which provided me with a fresh perspective to get to know Hangzhou and observe how its residents unite to make the city better. Since becoming a volunteer for the Asian Games, my teachers, classmates, and I have been busily preparing. Additionally, the leadership of the Asian Games Committee has been trying to provide us with better opportunities and conditions. In this big volunteer family, each of us feels a strong sense of happiness and belonging.

My position was the assistant of the big family. When I first started serving guests I got nervous easily, there were a lot of anecdotes. Though the process was rather stumbling, we both reached consensus with open arms. These experiences left me deep impressions. Ensuring the guests’ need was our prior mission, but beside fulfilling their needs, I also thought about what else I could do. I gave out a postcard to a guest at the first day of their residence. Words of blessings were written on it in three languages: Chinese, English and Indian. The background of the postcard was Dunhuang frescoes, symbolizing Chinese culture. The content of the frescoes was a Brahman portrait., serving as Indian element. The background stands for the blend and development between Chinese culture and Indian culture. The guests were so thrilled when I explained the moral of the postcard to them, saying they were truly excited receiving a gift like this. When the guests finished watching the grand opening ceremony. The guests gasped in admiration, calling it “mind blowing”. Hearing these praises to China, I felt pride arising from the depth of my heart. I think we can let our guests know China more fully and understand it while chatting with them, and show the truest side of China.

This year is the 74th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China. I think both the National Day and Asian Games are great stages to show China’s refreshing appearances. The hotel hosted grand ceremony in the Mid-Autumn gala yesterday night. Among those honored guests, Vice President of the Thai Olympic Committee, who speaks mandarin and loves Chinese culture due to his birth in China, shown great interest to the Mid-Autunm gala. These traditional culture-related events can help our foreign friends to have a better understanding of Hangzhou and the whole country. And let them have a more comprehensive and detailed impression to the city and country. I think this is a great form, and I sincerely hope there will be more opportunities in the future for me to introduce China to more foreigners.

The guest delivered his gratitude and honor to volunteers and the host of Hangzhou Asian Games Gala by message

As a member of the organization “XiaoQingHe”, I received a thank-you note from the Secretary of the Palestinian Olympic Committee with his accompanying person. The note is basically about: I’m proud of you all, thanks to all the friends and people of this great country, you are friends to Palestinian people. He also praised that we are the model of the friendly Chinese people, which filled my heart with deep pride. In this voluntary service activities, I not only learned many knowledge and skills, but also was able to have the chance to communicate with people from different countries and cultures. What matters most is that I fully felt the warmth and the touching feelings the big family brought us. This experience will be reserved in my heart forever, spurring me into maintaining my passion for voluntary work and devoting more to the society.

Seventy-four years of obstacles and seventy-four years of achievement. When the Asian Games encountered the National Festival, we have never felt the pride and devotion so truly. When the east wind meets the Qiantang river, causing tides and waves with songs from people in Hangzhou. Standing in Hangzhou to take a further view in Asia, we share and enjoy the Asian games passionately, meanwhile toasting strength and prosperity for our great country. As CKCers, we should aim for the highest and seek for the best, be energetic and brave enough to acheive more for our country and nation.

What we care are all about China, what we take belief in are the shining stars on the Chinese flag. I hope sincerely that our country can develop rapidly, and I’m expecting eagerly to see Chinese atheletes creating better scores on the court in following competitions!
