Every CKCer chases for dreams. In this excellent collection of excellent students, CKCers illuminate the true meaning of tenacious struggle by hard working, and fight for success with perspiration. On the afternoon of September 11 th 2009, the freshmen of CKC attended the opening ceremony of school year in the Lakeside Auditorium. The president of Zhejiang University, also as CKC’s president and an academician of Chinese Academy of Science, President Yang Wei, joined students to share this memorable moment. Together, they opened the first page of a brand-new university life.
President Yang Wei told the passionate stories of the former president Chu Kochen first. He later interpreted the ideas of undergraduate education in the world, as well as education philosophy and practice in China and in CKC. He pointed out that, CKC, known as the honors college of ZJU, should not only cultivate students in "wide, professional, interdisciplinary" ways, but use "intensive, deep, conversant" methods. President Yang encouraged the freshmen to make an effort in study, that is to be willing to think. By creating structure of knowledge and reading more books during university life, students could broaden their horizons and develop good analytical capability. Meanwhile, students should foster a critical mind. Being ready to try on the basis of bold thinking makes full preparation for innovations.
He expected 09 students to do three things. Above all, sharpen the will constantly, striving to become a "scholar-tyrant". Second, have a strong body. Last but not least, pass on the spirit and honor of CKC. Representative for teachers, professor Bao Shining, former student of Mixed Class who graduated in 1985, Fei Baiping and graduate in 1990, Hu Haiping, all gave speeches at the opening ceremony. Mr. Chen Jianhui, the board chairman of ZJU Sunny Nutrition Technology Limited Company, also a graduate of Mixed Class in 1984, donated a grant of 400 thousand Yuan for scholarship.
The ceremony ended with the school anthem. It is believed that the 09 students of CKC will certainly cherish their good time in university, engraving in their minds "high aspiration, pursuit of excellence" with CKC’s Spirit, trying their best to become a useful person, just like an eagle soaring in the sky, and becoming worthing of the title of "CKCER" and its honors.
