On the morning of Aug.11th, at the Zijingang campus of ZJU, a group of freshmen were in a line waiting for the interview for "Qiushi (meaning Pursuing the Truth) Science Class". Born in the 1990s, they came here holding broad ambitions. Aimed at cultivating "future scientists", it has been the first time for ZJU’s Qiushi Science Class to stage an admission interview.

Nearly 100 new students who had got high marks in the college entrance examination attended the interview yesterday. They were tested in math, physics, chemistry, biology and computer. These young men shared the same characteristic——passion for science. However, during the interview, they were asked many stiff and odd questions. In addition to their intended specialties, what the interviewers——the professors were most concern about were the students’ ideals as well as their thinking literacy. As a result, imagination and ability of logical thinking became the testing point, which would help to select out the real excellent talents that would be devoted to fields of science. At the interviewing scene, those answer-optional questions made a lot of students feel at a loss.

This year, the national ministry of education for the first time started a program called "Training Program for Top Students "with the aim of cultivating top and creative talents .The establishment of Qiushi Science Class was attached to the program. Subjects of Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science in 17 native top universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University and Zhejiang University were among the first batch of experimental units. ZJU’s Qiushi Science Class uses special method such as hierophantic system and has planned to admit around 100 new students each year.
