Held separately for students from higher and lower grades, the 2009 Students´ Conference of CKC Honors College convened in the Zijingang Theatre in the afternoon of Dec. 13 th . The conference was presided by Professor Tang Xiaowu, Deputy Dean of CKC. Faculty who also attended the conference included Standing Vice President Chen Jin, Professor Lu Guodong, Deputy Secretary of Party General Branch directly under the CPC, Zhong Rongrong and other teachers.

The first thing pointed out by Professor Tang Xiaowu in his opening speech was that CKC should become the pure land where Premier Wen Jiabao can "look up at the sky". The recent report by Qian Jiang Evening News about a 9-year-old boy joining classes in ZJU brought Professor Tang deep worries. He sharply highlighted the difficulties and challenges CKCers faced with during the past few years, of which students´ over-attention to academic grades, willingness of being utilitarians rather than scholars and weak confidence against frustration are the main causes of this dilemma. His speech immediately caught the attention of every student.

Professor Chen Jin gave a report named "CKC—exploring talents education in China. He explained the integral operating mechanism and cultivating system of CKC College at a macro level. He confirmed CKC´s most distinguishing feature as a place where different majored students are "mixed", aiming to enhance the basic education and blur the boundary of majors. To foster hi-level talents, advanced foresight is a must. Based on the practical experience of cultivating talents in past years, Prof. Chen brought up the idea of "rebuilding our education".

Following Party’s guideline of education in an innovative way, CKC should define its target role as a training center for strategic scientists, creative engineers, high-tech enterprisers, original artists, farsighted thinkers, intellectuals with independent dignity and even futurologists. Ultimately, Prof. Chen extended his wishes that every CKCer with great aspiration and eagerness to be as excellent as Nobel Prizers, as well as daily practice of CKC´s motto—pursuit of excellence. Professor Lu Guodong took the example of research teaching in Computer Graphics Algorithm to illustrate modern study pattern in his speech entitled Research-based Study & Achieving.

Under the background of awarding system revising, He addressed his opinions and suggestions towards the phenomenon among students that some ignoring the extracurricular study and some seeking for quick success and instant benefits when it comes to scientific research competitions. Last but not least, Mrs zhong Rongrong made a conclusion about students’ work in 2009 and gave prospect to next year’s. She stressed that the college Party Branch, Youth League and Students´ Union will together maintain the idea of "to serve, to guide and to develop", for the purpose of improving students´ overall quality and creating a colorful campus life as well as a sold studying environment.

The second conference, given to juniors and seniors, was different from the first one which focused on offering help to newcomers with their understanding of CKC´s educational concepts and setting of goals. The four leading staffs communicated with the elder students from 3 rd and 4 th grades on issues such as job-hunting, further study and graduation project. Students´ sense of belonging were thus deepened and self-confidence elevated. Held in a lively atmosphere, the meeting’s contents are rich and pratical.

"Being a CKCer is not only about an honor, but also requires actions to forge this sense of honor into daily life", a 1st-year student said after the meeting.
