Chu Kochen Honors College (CKC) of Zhejiang University, China
Over her century-long history, Zhejiang University has been blessed with numerous talents. In order to meet the talents challenge for 21st century science and technology development, Zhejiang University initiated in 1984 a pilot project¡ªMixed Class (Honors Program of Engineering), which ¡°mixed¡± selected elite freshmen from different departments into one class, where the strength of Zhejiang University¡¯s engineering courses could be combined with the advantage of her long-established science courses. Thus a pool of elite undergraduates were given the best instruction and cultivation with Zhejiang University's top disciplines and faculties. In May 2000, Chu Kochen Honors College was established on the basis of more mixed classes. The diverse models of mixed classes were then extensively applied to more elite students in the Honors Programs of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences, Natural Science, and Engineering. Tailored and diverse educational models have been offered to students so that they have the freedom to express their individuality and develop their potentials. This new stroke of renovation enabled the development of Chu Kochen Honors College to turn a new chapter in elite education. With ¡°Incessant Pursuit¡± as its motto, Chu Kochen Honors college continues to cultivate 21st century talents who are not only solid in knowledge and abilities, but also be creative and competitive, and become future leaders with global visions in many different fields.
